This should come as no surprise to anyone who has ever booked an August weekend stay in Greenport. The harborfront village’s charming hotels and quaint B&Bs rank as the fifth most expensive summer stay in New York State, according to survey by NewYorkHotels.org.At an average of $264 a night, a visit to Greenport won’t set you back quite as far as fourth-ranked Southampton ($295) or second-ranked East Hampton ($332), but its more expensive than a summer night in New York City ($152.)

Montauk, Long Island’s surf capital and increasingly popular South Fork hotspot, has the distinction of being the most expensive in New York at $342 a night.

The listed rates are the average cost a couple will have to spend to stay in the cheapest available double room between Aug. 1 and Aug. 31 in 2014. Only hotels or B&Bs rated at least 3 stars and that are close to the beach or city center were included in the rankings.
