“Step back in time and rest a while” is the motto at Orient Inn and once you arrive you arrive at the picturesque bed and breakfast, you’ll see that statement is quite fitting.
Built in 1906, the spacious Victorian home was transformed into a traveler’s retreat nearly 14 years ago by innkeepers Joan Turturro, husband Howard LeShaw and their Maltese mix Flower.
“It is not the cookie cutter hotel room you get when you go away on business,” Turturro said. “There is always something different about staying a bed and breakfast.”
Orient Inn has five spacious bedrooms that come with “all the amenities of a boutique hotel,” Turturro said.
Guests will enjoy free wifi, a large private bathroom, bath robes, shampoos and other toiletries and chocolates in their rooms.
A unique feature of the inn is its pet policy. There is one room designated as pet-friendly that guests can request in advance.
If you like eating you’ll love Orient Inn. Turturro trained at the International Culinary Institute and said one of the reason she wanted to have a B&B was to prepare food for guests.
The breakfast buffet is available from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and includes all the basics such as fresh fruit and cereal and hot menu items such as Turturro’s original scramble eggs with goat cheese, herbs and salmon. Other hot items include French toast, omelets, eggs made your way, bacon and sausage.
Coffee, tea, drinks, fresh fruit and homemade cookies are always available.
Dinner is available upon request.
The quite Orient Inn is a great place for walkers and cyclists.
The B&B is located short distance from both the bay and the Sound and a stone’s throw away from downtown Orient, which is home to numerous historic landmarks. And if you are looking for more to do, Greenport Village is less than five miles away.
The Inn itself is also a great place to hang out, Turturro said.
“Here we have a lot of space to offer,” she said. “Guests aren’t confined to their rooms. We have two dinning rooms and two living rooms. It is a good place just to hang out.”
